Logan County softball, baseball teams get ready for regionals this week

Logan County’s smaller teams in Class 2A-A-B will compete in regional action this week at various sites across the state.

Crescent’s girls softball team, which had to beat Walters twice in play-in games last week, winning 10-9 and 5-2, travel to Boone-Apache for its regional tournament.

The Lady Tigers (2013) face off with Boone-Apache (22-6) at noon Thursday. Hobart (19-11) and Dibble (20-12) make up the other half of the bracket. The losing teams play at 4 p.m., and the winners at 6. Only one school advances to the state tournament in October.

The Cashion LadyCats also qualified for this weekend’s regionals, and they travel to Latta on Thursday.

Cashion (18-9) faces Amber-Pocasset (24-7) in its opener, while Latta (21-13) and Mangum (1814) are on the other side of the bracket. Cashion qualified for the regional with a second-place finish in district play and did not have to go the play-in route to get into the regional. The schedule is the same for this region with a championship game Friday night.

The Mulhall-Orlando Lady Panthers are going to Kiowa on Thursday for their regional. The Lady Panthers beat Glencoe 18-0, and Dover 10-1 and 13-1 to advance to this weekend’s regional.

The Lady Panthers (217) are not ranked and meet Kiowa (28-10) in the tournament opener at noon Thursday. Caney (19-15) and No. 11 Kremlin-Hillsdale (24-7) are in the other half of the bracket.

The double-elimination tournament has an elimination game at 4 p.m. and the winners bracket game at 6. The championship games are scheduled for Friday at 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. (if necessary).

Mulhall-Orlando’s baseball team swept through its district last weekend, beating Oilton 15-9, Paden 12-0, and Oilton again 10-9 to advance to the regional at Calumet on Thursday. The Panthers (18-6) face Moss (24-6) in the opener, while Calumet (22-3) plays Big Pasture (22-6).

Unlike the softball bracket, two teams from each regional qualify for the state tournament. The Thursday winners will play a 6 p.m. game with the winner advancing to the state tournament. The losing teams come back on Friday to fight through the losers’ bracket for a chance to get to Oklahoma City next week.
