Lady Bluejays celebrate Senior Night with softball victory for Ashlee Eichler

Guthrie High’s softball team celebrated Senior Night with a 2-0 win Monday night against the Oklahoma City Broncos Home School team and honored its lone senior, Ashlee Eichler, who played a big role in the victory.

Two third-inning runs held up for the Lady Bluejays’ 19th win of the year. Guthrie had five hits and the Broncos had three.

Eichler got the pitching start and worked one inning before Kinley Duehning took over and finished the game with eight strikeouts. Eichler had two hits and scored a run, following sister, Abbie, across home plate on a double by Ava Hebensperger.

Katelyn Siess and Codi Hibbs had the only other hits for Guthrie.

Guthrie traveled to Capitol Hill this week to play their last two district games of the year and return home Thursday to play Putnam City in non-district action and then finish their regular season at the Oklahoma Christian Festival on Friday against Edmond Santa Fe. Barring some minor upsets, the Lady Bluejays should be hosting a regional next weekend as the second-place finisher in the district.

The Lady Bluejays (197) traveled to Chickasha last Friday for games with Elgin and Chickasha. Guthrie lost to Elgin 6-3 when the Lady Owls scored four runs in the top of the seventh. Guthrie then bounced back against Chickasha with a 5-3 win.

Mckenna Tucker took the loss in the first game, while Duehning got the win in the Chickasha game.

Ag a i n st El g i n , Duehning, Ashl ee Eichler and Hibbs each had two hits. In the second game, Guthrie had 11 hits, with Abbie Eichler, Duehning, Siess and Saylor Hamilton each collecting two. The Lady Bluejays had six doubles.
