Guthrie High School senior Anjewl Murillo was named the Most Valuable Player for the recently completed Suburban Conference girls basketball season.
The four-year starter led the Lady Bluejays to the area finals the past two seasons, scored over 1,000 points in her career and was the main ball handler to spark the offense.
This season, she averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists per game.
Murillo’s athletic career is not completed yet as she will defend her Class 5A 400-meter track title later this spring in Yukon.
Carl Albert’s Ari Diaz was named Defensive Player of the Year; El Reno’s Jennifer Douglas was named Coach of the Year; and Del City’s Sacha Hunt was named Newcomer of the Year in other honors announced during the spring break.
Guthrie players Mariah Dightman and Ania Morgan were named to the third team All-Conference squad. Kynlee Smedley, Braydin Russell and Alyana Wallace were honorable mention choices.
On the boys side, senior Jaylen Chelf was named to the conference All-Defensive Team and was an honorable mention choice.
Teammates Braydon Morgan and Nate Benford landed Second Team honors, while Jaylen Harper also earned honorable mention status.
Morgan, Benford and Harper will all return for their senior seasons.
