Edmond Memorial High School was the site of a three-team junior varsity soccer event Wednesday night that saw the host team walk away with a perfect 2-0 night when all was said and done.
Junior varsity two squads from Edmond Memorial, Edmond North and Guthrie faced off against each other in a round robin-style tournament featuring three 50-minute matches. The Bulldogs picked up wins against both of their opponents, Edmond North fell to Memorial but defeated Guthrie, and the Bluejays lost both of their contests.
Game one saw Edmond North take care of Guthrie, 3-0, in what was the highest scoring match of the event.
Next up was Edmond Memorial versus Guthrie, a game that was neck-and-neck the entire way through until Memorial’s Hunter Miller headed in a crosser with just 1:15 to go, giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 victory. Guthrie goalkeeper Jesus Torres played a near-flawless game up until the last-minute goal against an aggressive Memorial offensive attack.
Wednesday’s finale pit Memorial and North together in an Edlam showdown that didn’t take long to see the first goal put in. Braylin Jones got Memorial on the board in the fifth minute with a strike off his right foot, then Hunter Miller put in his second goal of the day with a centerfield shot that rifled past the Huskies’ keeper in the 44th minute.
Memorial won the final match, 2-0.
Both Memorial and North will be off until school returns from spring break, while Guthrie turns right around for a home match on Thursday against Christian Heritage.
