GHS Girls Golf Perform at State

OKLAHOMA CITY — Guthrie golfer Maely Beeby saved her best performance for the biggest stage.

Beeby carded a 22-over-par 94 at the Class 5A state tournament on Monday, May 5, 2025 to finish first among five Blue Jays who competed and 35th overall.

“That was her best round of the year, coach Jason Rice said. “She had been struggling the previous weeks. That’s kind of why I kind of dropped her back to my five bag. I had dropped her score the last several tournaments.”

The tournament at Lincoln Park Golf Course was cut short by a day because of rain. Rice said Beeby didn’t seem to mind.

“She played really well and was happy to end on a high note,” he said.

Tatum Brown, Guthrie’s top golfer, had a different experience. She shot a 25-over-par 97 to finish tied for 39th with four other golfers. Brown was coming off a fourth-place finish at the east regionals in Tulsa the previous week.

“Tatum definitely wanted to come back and get another round in because she felt like she didn’t play her best,” Rice said.

Guthrie, with a cumulative score of 391 through 18 holes, finished ninth, seven strokes behind eighth-place Durant and 13 strokes behind No. 7 El Reno. Duncan won the team title with a score of 333.

Mallory Lemon and Audrey Allen each shot 100 for the Blue Jays while Taegen Reyes carded a 101.

Each wanted to play another 18 holes, Rice said.

“They wanted to get that second round in, try and move our team score up the leaderboard a little bit,” he said. “We felt like we were close enough to Durant and (El Reno) that if we played like we’ve played all year and are capable of we could have bumped up a couple of spots in the team rankings.”
