Thanks to the generosity and support of the local community, Rhonda Ward and her husband will set sail for Alaska on September 11.
Following Rhonda’s diagnosis in September 2024 of cholangiocarcinoma, a bile-duct cancer, her oncologist suggested she fulfill her bucket list dream of visiting Alaska as soon as possible, since they cannot predict what the coming year will bring.
Despite undergoing cancer treatments, Rhonda declared, “I’m going to see Alaska!”
On a scorching July 22 at the Logan County Fairgrounds in Guthrie, about 500 people gathered with a shared purpose at the Rally for Rhonda event, raising $8,200.
Rhonda and her sister, Cindy, wanted to thank everyone for their contributions, prayers and support.
Cindy, holding back tears of appreciation, spoke about the dedication of the food truck vendors who tirelessly cooked and served under the relentless hundred-degree heat at the rally.
Rhonda and Cindy also wanted to express their gratitude to the vendors who generously donated 15% of their sales during the event, ensuring Rhonda would be able to take a cruise to Alaska and have the chance to see the majestic humpback whales.
Since the age of 19, Rhonda has devoted herself to caring for the elderly in Guthrie, through nursing homes, home health care, hospice care, and the health department. Her impact on the lives she has touched is immeasurable.
As Rhonda embarks on this journey, we send our warmest wishes. May this trip be filled with unforgettable moments, woven with love and resilience.
