The Cashion Wildcats made it to the Class 2A State Tournament last week, and their reward was the three-time defending state champion Silo Rebels in their opening game. While the Wildcats jumped out to an early 3-0 lead on the strength of a Brexten Green two-run home run in the first inning and a double by Nathanael Bronaugh that drove in Jackson Miller in the second inning, the Rebels bounced back and win 12-3, ending the Wildcats season. The Rebels went on to win the state championship Saturday.

Silo got their bats going in the third inning and tied the game up at 3-3 before taking the lead for good in the fourth inning at 5-3. It was 8-3 in the seventh inning when the Rebels added the final four runs of the game. Cashion was retired in order in the seventh inning, ending the game.

Green got two of the Wildcats’ four hits in the game. Landon Lagasse singled in the sixth inning but was stranded.

Senior Hayden Branch went five innings for the Wildcats, giving up six runs and striking out four, while taking the loss. Cooper Frazee and Gavin Phippen pitched the last two innings, surrendering the final six runs.

Silo got 11 hits in the game, including two doubles and two home runs.

Cashion ended the season at 27-7 and will have to replace Green, Bronaugh, and Branch next season in the line-up. Silo, who last lost March 27, finished the spring season 38-2 and the year 63-8, including its state runner-up finish in its fall season.

A job well done by the Wildcats in 2021, who are Chisholm Trai Invitational champions, Mulhall-Orlando Invitational champions, district champions, regional champions and state qualifiers.
