Ona Smith was born November 9, 1941 to Claire Frances Smalley and Ona Dorothy (Everts) Smalley. She passed away August 1, 2023 in Guthrie, Oklahoma after her battle with cancer. Ona graduated from school at Duncan High School. She worked at the Oklahoma State University Registrar’s office and as a medical assistant for DR. R. F. Ringrose. Later, she moved on to Logan County Hospital where she worked in physical therapy and then respiratory therapy, where patients adored her.

Ona is survived by her husband Harold Ray Smith; three daughters: Clair (Woody) Christian (Guthrie, OK), Sherri (Woody) Hunt & Husband Scott (Castle Rock, CO) Jodi Woody & husband Jerry (Enid, OK); four step-children and three step-daughterin- laws: Keith Yerta & wife Bonnie, David Yerta & wife Vickie, Steven Smith & wife Tammie, and Donna (Smith) Landthrip; eleven grandchildren; Chris Christian & wife Erin; Cody Christian & wife Haylie; Jake Hunt & wife Mariah; Jordan Verdie & husband Martin; Josh Hunt; Aubri Woody; Aiden Barker; twelve stepgrandchildren; Donna Dunham, Joshua Yerta, Stacey Wingo, Desiree Yerta, Ramsey Elliott, Stacia Schimmel, Mariah Elliott, Sarah Rinn, Hannah Landthrip, Laura Landthrip, Rhiley Cotner, Bailey Smith; seven great grandchildren; thirteen step-grandchildren; two nieces: Franci Willard and Dru (Willard) Mc-Clellan; one nephew David Willard and wife Brandi; numerous great and great, great nieces and nephews. Ona was preceded in death by her parents: Claire Frances Smalley and Ona Dorothy (Everts) Smalley; her sister Catherine Elizabeth Smalley; her sister and husband: Dorothy Frances (Smalley) Willard and husband David Andrew Willard Jr.; and her step-daughter Yvonne Kimberlea Elliott.

Ona was a loving and caring person with a huge heart. She was compassionate towards others, protective of her family and friends, and very generous with whatever she may have. She was a strong woman. She loved crafting, quilting, and in her younger days, clogging with her close friends. Most of all she loved seeing all her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Ona had a special closeness with her sister Dorothy. When they were together all that could be heard was laughter and giggles. She had much love and appreciation for her husband Harold. He meant the world to her.

The family would like to thank the staff at Golden Age Nursing Home for their diligence and tenderness in caring for our loved one (wife/mother/ grandmother/friend).

Memorial services will be held at Hayes Funeral Home on Saturday, August 12, 2023, at 1:00 p.m.
