Harvey “Dwayne” Williams

1934-2026

Harvey “Dwayne” Williams

Harvey “Dwayne” Williams, age 91, of Checotah, Oklahoma, departed this life on June 26, 2026.

He was the only son of three children born to Lee & Sophia (Mills) Williams on September 25, 1934, in a farmhouse on the family farm at Reydon, Oklahoma. When Dwayne was a baby, the family moved to a farm near Guthrie, Oklahoma, where he attended rural schools and then Guthrie High School where he graduated in 1952.

He married Dolores (Dee) Nelson on June 21, 1953, and to this union was born a son, Monty Dwayne. This marriage ended in 1959, but Dwayne and Dee remained steadfast friends throughout their lives. He later married Frances Barnett, and they had one daughter who died at childbirth. This union later ended.

Growing up on a farm he was educated in the methods of farming and crop growing and took a keen interest in the mechanics of farm machinery which led to his love of cars and modifying them to his own taste. Not long out of high school he found his calling in the trucking business and purchased a semitrailer truck and hit the open road traveling thousands of miles across America.

Quick-witted and funny with a dry sense of humor, he was a man loyal to his friends and always ready to lend a helping hand to someone in need. He was cast a devastating blow when his only son was killed in a motorcycle accident at a young age. He has been injured in truck accidents on the road and landed in hospitals for weeks out of state. He was healed from a near death experience for which he gave God credit. Life wasn’t always easy, but his faith in God and the strength from Him carried him through. Essentially, Dwayne was a man among men.

Through the years, he enjoyed going to the lake, camping, boating, fishing and getting together with friends. He spent his later years living near a lake – Lake Eufaula.

Dwayne is survived by two sisters: Lela James of Oklahoma City, and Geraldine Sander of Idaho Springs, Colorado; three stepchildren: Mindy Morton of Udall, Kansas, Cindy Burke of Shawnee, Oklahoma and Bob Barnett of Sagle, Idaho, and many nieces and nephews and special friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and son, Monty Dwayne Williams.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Hayes Funeral Home. Burial followed at Summit View Cemetery in Guthrie.

Services were under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. Friends and family may sign the online guestbook at hayesfh. com.
