1954-2024

Deborah Sue Kohler, 70, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, passed away on Saturday, April 20, 2024. She was born on February 18, 1954, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma to Sam and Pearl (Howard) Freeman. She graduated from U.S. Grant High School, Oklahoma City in 1972.

Debbie was a seamstress. She stitched her love for others and her love for sewing together. Debbie made her own dresses, friends dresses, her niece’s outfits for homecoming and beauty competitions and she crafted many of her son's Halloween costumes. Her definition of family and friends was seamless, as her friends were her family.

Debbie worked for over 30 years in finance at the CIT Group in Oklahoma City. Her consistent nature and dependability continued in the barn of the Coyle 4H and FFA stock shows. She began as a mom while her son showed hogs for many years, but continued as she was present for many shows after her son graduated. She was a member of the booster club and gave her time, money and love to many children who showed with the Coyle 4H and FFA.

In her later years, she also gave back by serving on the Meridian Volunteer Fire Department Women’s Auxiliary for over 25 years and was a proud member of the Board of Directors for the Meridian Volunteer Fire Department for 12 years.

She is survived by her son, Samuel Kohler of Guthrie; four nieces, Tonya Butler of Yukon, Oklahoma, Jessica Montgomery of Syracuse, New York, Kayln Graf of Oklahoma City, and Jodee Wiley of Arkansas; one nephew, Bryan Roschal of Oklahoma City; and one grandson, Samual James Kohler, Jr of Guthrie.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gary Kohler; siblings, David Freeman, Pamela (Freeman) Boles, both of Oklahoma City and Richard Freeman of Sallisaw, Oklahoma.

A memorial service will take place on Friday, April 26, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. at Smith Memorial Chapel. Services are under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home in Guthrie.

There will not be any visitation.

Friends may sign the online guestbook at www. smithgallo.com.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established to support the Coyle 4H and FFA Booster Club. Donations can be sent to: PO Box 122, Coyle, OK 73027
