1946-2026
On Thursday, September 3rd, 2026, Clifford Wayne Nelson, loving husband, father, grandfather, and greatgrandfather passed away surrounded by loved ones in his home after a long courageous battle with bone cancer.
Clifford was born April 22nd, 1946 to Aaron T.P. Nelson and Mary Jewel (Johnston) Nelson in Guthrie, Oklahoma. He grew up in Guthrie and worked for Autoquip Corporation as a maintenance engineer for over fortyfour years. On August 9th, 1969, he married the love of his life Judith Goodwin in Guthrie, Oklahoma. Together, they raised one daughter Brandie Michelle (Nelson) Coburn.
He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Judith Nelson, daughter, Brandie (Nelson) Coburn of Crescent, grandchildren Matthew Coburn of Guthrie and Danielle (Coburn) Butt and her husband Karl of Crescent, and his great grandchildren Everly and Bradley Butt. Clifford is also survived by five brothers, Aaron Nelson of Maple Falls, Washington, William (Billy) Nelson and wife Cindy of Coyle, Clinton Nelson and wife, Carolyn of Coyle, Steve Nelson and wife Zoya of Guthrie, and Terry Nelson of Edmond. As well as four sisters, Martha Young and husband Dean of Guthrie, Dorothy Seagroves and husband Cecil of Guthrie, Patricia Myers and husband Gary of Guthrie, Barbara Tennison and husband David of Guthrie and many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Clifford was a huge fan of OU football and OU softball. He loved fishing and spending as much time as possible with his great grandchildren. He loved a good cherry pie and old movies.
Clifford is preceded in death by his parents Aaron T.P. and Mary Jewel Nelson, one sister, Wanda Louise Higdon and husband Bill, one sister-in-law Dolores Nelson, three nephews, Phillip Myers, Lesley Nelson, Johnny Wayne Nelson, and two great nephews, Corey Moore and Gary Don “Trey” Myers III.
A celebration of Clifford’s life will be held on Saturday, September 19th at 2:00 P.M. at the First Christian Church located at 402 E. Noble in Guthrie, Oklahoma.
