1945-2023

Alan Dean Shafer, 78, was born October 12, 1945 to Glen and Doris Shafer in Mulhall, Oklahoma. He passed from this earth at home, surrounded by his loving family, on December 11, 2023.

He graduated from Guthrie High School in 1963, and then went on to enlist in the United States Army. He proudly served his country for three years, and was honorably discharged in 1967. At which time he married and had one daughter.

He worked for many years as a mechanic in the oilfield industry. He was a long time resident of Edmond, Oklahoma and then Wellston, Oklahoma. For the last five years he made his home in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

Alan is preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Doris; and his brothers, Glen Shafer, Jr. and Neal Shafer.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Patsie Shafer; his son, Hunter Shafer; his daughter, Cindy Grizzle and husband Ronnie; his stepson, Billy Smith; his two step-daughters, Bobbi Tehrani and husband Bijan, Jena Mottola and husband Rob; his four brothers: Albert “Shorty” Shafer, Roy Shafer and wife Sue, Arnol Shafer, and Ivan Shafer; his two sisters, Ruth Wolf and husband Paul, and Fern Elmore and husband Loy Don; his eight grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 1:00 P.M., Friday, December 15, 2023 at Smith Memorial Chapel. Burial followed at Victor Cemetery in Mulhall. Services were under the direction of Smith-Gallo Funeral Home, Guthrie, Oklahoma.
