A Logan County sheriff’s deputy arrested a driver early Wednesday morning following a high-speed pursuit that began on Interstate 35.
At approximately 2:15 a.m., the deputy observed a vehicle traveling northbound on I-35 at a high rate of speed. The deputy activated radar and recorded the vehicle traveling at 127 mph.
The deputy attempted to stop the vehicle, but the driver continued northbound before exiting at Seward Road and traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed. The vehicle eventually left the roadway and crashed near Midwest Boulevard and Seward Road.
Due to the heavily wooded area, a drone was deployed to help locate the vehicle and driver.
The vehicle was identified as a 2026 GMC Acadia registered to Hertz Vehicles LLC.
The driver, Leo Daniel Michaels, was transported to a local hospital and cleared for transport to the Logan County Detention Center.
According to booking information, Michaels was booked on charges of eluding a police officer, aggravated DUI, speeding, failure to stop at a stop sign and reckless driving.
