Oklahoma Frontier Drugstore Museum Seeks Volunteers

One of Guthrie’s most fascinating features, the Oklahoma Frontier Drugstore Museum, is currently seeking volunteers to help with daily operations and with guiding visitors. Applicants must love history; enjoy greeting people and talking with them about the museum and its history; and be helpful in maintaining the Apothecary Garden. Duties will also include assisting the museum during the ‘89ers Day Celebration, the Victorian Christmas Walk, museum fundraisers and golf tournaments, and other annual events.

City officials reviewing water shortage strategy options

The City of Guthrie has a stressed water supply due to a lack of rain, and city officials are reviewing options to address the matter. “I don’t want to alarm anyone at this point, but I think it’s pretty obvious to us that we do have a stressed city of Guthrie water supply,” said City Manager Leroy Alsup.

Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week

The Guthrie Rotary Club Student of the Week is Marshal Self. He is the son of Anna and Jeff Self. Marshal has been active with sports at Guthrie High School. He played football, wrestling, golf, powerlifting and his Senior year he is in track. Marshal has the 4th fastest 200 meter time in 5A, and the 5th fastest time in the 400 meter. After graduation, Marshal hopes to walk on, preferably to OU, and hopefully earn a scholarship and study business. Pictured with Marshal is Rotary’s District 5750 Governor, Deena Fisher.

Teen ropers earn $42K and $50K at Hooey Jr. BFI

GUTHRIE, Oklahoma, April 1, 2023 – Southeastern Oklahoma State University’s Levi James and Murray State College’s Garrett Hughes combined to out-rope nearly 400 teams in the biggest Hooey Jr. BFI on record in Guthrie, Oklahoma’s Lazy E Arena, splitting a cool $50,000 cash plus huge array of prizes. James of Atoka, Okla., and Hughes of Sulphur, Okla., caught four steers in 29.44 seconds for the windfall on March 30.

Busy Weekend for Bluejay Baseball

Guthrie had a very busy weekend of baseball during their trip to Kingfisher’s annual “The Shed” tournament. The good news is they won three games. The bad news is their pattern of clutch comebacks against tough opponents finally fell short, and the Bluejays took their first loss of the season.

Lady ‘Jays softball falls to 7-6

Guthrie High’s softball team lost its first two games last week, but bounced back with a 13-8 victory against Mooreland. In that game, Codi Hibbs led the way with two doubles and a single, five RBI and four runs scored.

U.S. Territorial Marshals Reenactors Return To Guthrie

Prairie Grass Production’s U.S. Territorial Marshals are returning, once again, to the ‘89er Days Celebration. Those famous, bold men who rode for Judge Parker from 1850 to 1907 will come to life on April 22nd after the end of the ‘89er Parade at about 3:30 p.m. at the American Legion LeBron Post 58.
