Partners study passenger rail service between OKC and Newton, Kansas with $500,000 grant

Guthrie, Oklahoma is one step closer to becoming a stop on an expanded route for Amtrak’s Heartland Flyer, which currently travels between Ft. Worth and Oklahoma City. The Federal Railroad Administration has awarded funding to the Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) to create a Service Development Plan for expansion of that route from Oklahoma City north to Newton, Kansas.

GPS Breaks Ground for New Cotteral Elementary

A large turnout of schoolchildren, parents, board members, local legislators, business leaders, and press representatives witnessed the ceremonial groundbreaking at Cotteral Elementary School in Guthrie today, to kick off full construction on the new school building at the Cotteral site.

State of the City Luncheon

Last week saw the annual State of the City Luncheon, hosted by Meridian Technology Center and held at their South Campus facility in Guthrie. Four City of Guthrie leaders made their appearance and discussed the city government’s accomplishments and ongoing challenges as they approach the end of 2023.

Guthrie EMS begins new subscription program

Guthrie EMS takes a page out of an existing playbook and kicks off a new subscription program starting next month. The program enables any residents within the Guthrie EMS coverage area to avoid out-of-pocket costs for any ambulance calls, while driving additional revenue to help with the department’s needs.

Guthrie Rotary Students of the Week

The Guthrie Rotary Club Students of the Week are Kynlee Smedley and Braydon Morgan. Kynlee is the daughter is Angie Young and Justin Smedley. Kynlee is active in basketball, Student Council and National Honor Society. She was honorable mention at Suburban Conference. After graduation, Kynlee plans to do her Prerequisites at Rose State to apply to the Diagnostic Medical Sonography program at Moore Norman Tech. Braydon is the son of Natalie and Donald Morgan. He is active with track, basketball and National Honor Society. Braydon was Second team All- Conference and was on the tournament teams at CCS and Woodward. He is undecided about his future plans.
