A pregnant woman was reported in stable condition Monday a day after being struck by a car driven by a 17-year-old near the corner of east Oklahoma Avenue and south Oak Street in Guthrie.

Sgt. Anthony Gibbs of the Guthrie Police Department said an officer had witnessed a silver late-model Honda that appeared to have defective equipment and a loud modified exhaust. He heard what sounded like the vehicle accelerating, and he turned to follow the vehicle and activated his lights, intending to perform a routine traffic stop. At the time, a pregnant female was attempting to cross Oklahoma Avenue, and seeing the oncoming Honda, turned around to avoid it. The responding officer also reported seeing the Honda swerve, attempting to miss the woman, but she was struck.

Gibbs said the victim was transported to a local hospital, where she has been reported to be in stable condition with no critical injuries or broken bones. Her unborn child did not sustain injuries and the pregnancy is also stable, according to the report.

The driver of the Honda was not arrested at the scene, but was released to a parent. The Honda was impounded for further investigation, and Guthrie PD is awaiting the collection and review of EGR data from the vehicle’s internal systems to determine what charges are warranted, if any.

The Guthrie News Leader will provide updates as new information becomes available.
