The Logan County Board of Commissioners Tuesday were introduced to Madison Bolay, the Republican candidate seeking to replace outgoing District 38 State Rep. John Pfeiffer, who is term limited.

He faces Democrat Doyle Lewis in the Nov.3 general election.

“I'm Madison Bolay. I live in Perry. I'm running for House District 38,” he said. “Just wanted to come and introduce myself. I want to be a commonsense person and work with the commissioners. But also, be just somebody that can listen, take your ideas and move them to the Capitol, and be willing to work with you and be responsible for that.”

Bolay told the Board he is a fifth-generation farmer.

In other matters, the Board approved a 2026-2027 mutual cooperative agreement with the Town of Cedar Valley.

“So, we do this year to year so we can help them maintain some of their roads inside of their city limits,” District 3 Commissioner Monty Piearcy said.

The Commissioners approved a resolution on a 2026 longevity paid program for county employees and a resolution declaring October 9 as County Employee Appreciation Day. County business hours that day will be from 8 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., allowing employees to attend the lunch and be closed the rest of the day.

County Clerk Troy Cole recommended keeping the employee appreciation day going forward on the Friday before Columbus Day in October.

“When we started this, we were trying to tie it to the Veterans Day holiday. So, we'd leave half the day. The Veterans Day (holiday) moves. It's not always on a Monday, which ran into a problem even this year,” she said. “It makes it easy for me to be able to keep booking facilities and do the planning if we were to consider the Friday before Columbus Day in October, which is what this is. So, in looking at the calendar, if we could just kind of look at each Friday before Columbus Day as becoming our standard for appreciation day.

The Commissioners agreed to put the matter on a future meeting agenda.
