The City of Guthrie Public Works Office issued a statement on Monday afternoon regarding ongoing efforts to effect extensive critical repairs to Guthrie’s water system in response to two major water line breaks.

The statement, issued by Guthrie Public Works Director Tenny Maker, states that “Guthrie City crews, as well as outside contractors, are currently working around the clock to repair” the breaks.

In addition, the statement claims that “while the water plant is fully operational, as soon as the two water line breaks are addressed, the Water Treatment Plant requires extensive emergency repairs” in addition to repairing the two breaks. “It is anticipated that all repairs will be performed this week as parts become available.”

Guthrie Public Works is warning that during the ongoing repairs, customers could experience low water pressure or possible interruptions in the water supply. However, they do assure everyone that water quality will not be affected by these repairs.

Customers are requested to take additional steps to decrease water consumption for the full week while the repairs are performed, if at all possible. Additionally, once the repairs to the primary water plant begin, they will be performed between 9:00pm and 7:00am, and it will be critical for water consumption to be as low as possible during that time.

These conditions during the repairs affect not only Guthrie residential and commercial water customers, but also Langston University, City of Coyle, and Rural Water, all of which receive water from the Guthrie supply system.

Should any customers have questions regarding the repairs, they should reach out to Guthrie Public Works at 405-282-8400.
