The Guthrie City Council Tuesday approved a contract with the YMCA of Greater Oklahoma City and Guthrie YMCA for operation of the municipal swimming pool at Highland Park for the 2023 season.

Public Works Director Tenny Maker said the operational agreement is a renewal of a partnership between the YMCA and City of Guthrie. This partnership allows for the YMCA to manage the Guthrie Municipal Pool with the City providing maintenance and improvements.

Maker said the City pays the YMCA an operating fee of $10,000. The YMCA will collect all revenue generated from operations.

“ The pool will be operational by May 19 for YMCA staff training and open to the public on May 27 through August 13 subject to lake water levels,” he said. “It will be available this year for rentals through Aug. 27.

This year’s base operating fee in the contract includes the pool remaining open on Independence Day, Tuesday, July 4.

The Council approved a $20,467.50 grant for a 2023 Sea-Doo watercraft from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation for Guthrie Police Department.

This grant will allow the police department to obtain a 2023 Seadoo. This vehicle will be used by lake patrol officers at area bodies of water, including, but not limited to, Guthrie and Liberty Lakes.

In other matters, the Council approved the purchase of a 2023 Ford Responder truck from John Vance in the amount of $49,283.

The truck’s cost will be 100 percent reimbursed by the Iowa Tribe of Oklahoma Grant. The vehicle will be issued to Victim Advocate Patricia Mutters and the Tahoe she currently operates will be moved to the patrol fleet.
