Route 66 Road Fest
OKLAHOMA CITY – Feb. 22, 2021 – In consideration of Oklahoma Department of
Public Health guidance and federal health recommendations associated with COVID-19, AAA
Oklahoma is postponing its Route 66 Road Fest celebration to the summer of 2022.
“Like everyone in Oklahoma, we must do all we can to ensure public safety,” said Jared
Peterson, president of AAA Club Alliance Great Plains Region. “We look forward to a time
when long and short road trips become the norm again. By 2022, many more people from around
the country and region will have a chance to join us here in Oklahoma for a celebration of the
Mother Road.”
The AAA Route 66 Road Fest is a first-ever statewide celebration, kicking off a five-year
run that leads up to the historic highway’s 100 th birthday in 2026. The event was scheduled to
start in Tulsa on June 18 and end in Oklahoma City on June 26 of 2021. New dates and other
details will be announced in the coming months.
In celebration of the historic highway’s centennial, the rescheduled Road Fest will be an
immersive journey of the Great American Road Trip through the decades, allowing visitors to
travel through time from the 1920s and continuing into the high-tech future of automobiles.
Thousands of visitors from across the state and around the globe are expected to take part in the
celebration, which will include numerous Oklahoma communities up and down the Mother
Road.
“While the pandemic may have pushed our celebration back a year, it has not diminished
our enthusiasm for celebrating Route 66 and the highway’s historical and cultural ties to
Oklahoma,” Peterson said. “We can’t wait to roll out the Road Fest in 2022.”
