Crescent, Cashion track teams head to state

Track and field athletes from Crescent and Cashion high schools are headed to the Class 2A State Championships this weekend at Western Heights High School.

The Lady Tigers finished in second place at the Cherokee Regional on Saturday with 120 points, while the Lady-Cats finished fifth with 57. Hooker won the event with 147 points.

In the boys event, the Tigers finished in seventh place with 40 points and the Wildcats were ninth with 33.

C re s c e nt ’ s Re y don Walker edged out Cashion’s Reese Williams, 13.25 to 13.46, for the girls 100-meter championship. Both girls will travel to Oklahoma City for the prelims on Friday.

In the 200, Cashion’s Chevy Eubanks beat Crescent’s Kinidi Taylor 27.35-27.46 for the firstplace spot. Walker also qualified with a thirdplace finish in 28.07. In the boys race, Crescent’s Jayden Perkins finished third in 24.10 to qualify for state.

In the middle distance races, Calen Cox of Crescent finished third at 400 meters in 1:03.2 to qualify. Williams (1:05.41), Cashion’s Jaylee Harp (1:06.10), and Crescent’s Micah Lovett (1:06.83) just fell short of qualifying. Perkins won the boys race in 52.49 to qualify for his second event this weekend.

Cashion’s Boedy Beutler ran 16.03 in the 110 boys hurdles and 41.35 in the 300 hurdles event to claim the titles. Crescent’s Dylan Descher also qualified in the 110 hurdles, taking third in 19.74. In the girls 300 hurdles, Cashion’s Williams qualified with a time of 50.96, good for third place in the regional finals.

Gage Bedick of Cashion ran 2:07.36 in the 800 meters to earn a trip to OKC as one of the fastest qualifiers outside the top three at the regional meet. On the girls side, Cashion’s Sierra McCracken was third in 2:30.71 to qualify and Crescent’s Olivia Scott just missed out at 2:37.04.

Bedick qualified for his second event in the 1,600 with a time of 4:53.51, good for third place at the regional. Crescent’s Jacob Buck ran 11:17.28 in the boys 3,200, good for fifth place and a spot in the state meet as an additional qualifier.

In the relay events, the Lady Tigers are the No. 1 seed (51.21) in the 4x100-meter relay and the No 2 seed in the 4x200 (1:49.16). Cox, Walker, Taylor and Kylee Bell were on the relay teams that qualified.

The Lady Tigers also qualified their 4x400 relay team with a time of 4:30.33. In the 4x800, the Cashion team of Cheyenne Martinez, Megan Shafer, Williams and Mc-Cracken finished second at Cherokee in 10:45.24 to earn a trip to OKC.

In the field events, Taylor looks to defend her 2022 title in the long jump as the top seed after winning at regionals with a jump of 17-11.5. Kylee Bell also earned a trip to state by finishing in fourth at 15-2.25.

Bell also qualified in the pole vault, clearing 9-0, along with teammate Breanna Thomas, who went 8-6 to qualify. Luke Baustert of Cashion qualified for the boys pole vault at 9-6 for a third-place finish in the regional.

Kinzie Bell won the girls discus at 122-0 and is the No. 2 seed at OKC. She will also compete in the shot put after finishing third at the regional with a throw of 30-4. Crescent’s Stone Fisher finished second in the boys shot put at 47-10 to earn a trip.
