Delbert Allen (“Deb”) Carey, 84, of Berryville, AR, passed away, Tuesday, July 18, 2023, after a long illness. Deb was born December 14, 1938, in Guthrie, Ok to Delbert Woods (“Jake”) Carey and Ethel Ellen Carey (Waller).

Delbert graduated from Guthrie, Ok High School in 1956 and went on to earn his first bachelor’s degree in Animal Science from Oklahoma State University (OSU) in 1961. He later returned to his beloved OSU and earned a second bachelor’s degree in Trade and Industrial Education in 1981 along with a teaching certificate.

He had a diverse career spanning agriculture, manufacturing, business owner and his favorite thing, teaching. Delbert lived for many years in the Boise City, OK community where he owned businesses and taught high school vocational arts. He farmed wheat, corn and beef cattle for many years in the Guthrie, OK area alongside his father and brothers. He spent the last 30 years living in Berryville, AR where he retired from Tyson Foods as a Shift Maintenance Supervisor. No one appreciated a machine of any type, adjusted properly, running smoothly and working as designed more than Deb.

Deb was a longtime member of the Freeman Heights Baptist Church where he was a Sunday School Teacher and constant volunteer for any task. While there, he became a surrogate father and grandfather to countless people. He enjoyed any opportunity to teach and mentor both kids and adults. He received the most joy from seeing his students succeed at all things in life.

Delbert is preceded in death by his parents and his son, Glen Carey.

Survivors include his wife, Carol Carey; his daughter, Kathryn Carey of Enid, OK; three brothers, Victor Carey and his wife Christine of Santa Fe, NM, Robert Carey and his wife Ann of Guthrie, OK and Michael Carey and his wife Jane of Guthrie, OK; 2 Step-sons, Scott Worley and his wife Kameron of Berryville, AR, Jim Worley and his wife Tara of McKinney, TX and 2 grandsons; Tayler Worley of Dubuque, IA and Charles “Trey” Neyland of McKinney. TX; Tayler’s mother Melanie Simmons of Polo, MO; many nieces, nephews and other extended family that Deb loved and enjoyed.

There will be a memorial service at Freeman Heights Baptist Church in Berryville at 3:00 PM, Sunday, July 23. No visitation is planned.
