Mother Nature may have stalled Monday night’s softball game in the fifth inning, but Guthrie High’s Lady Bluejays weathered the rain and lightning delay to edge Cushing 12-10, pouring on 15 hits in the process. The victory evened Guthrie’s record at 8-8 heading into Thursday’s game at Perkins-Tryon.

Ava Hebensperger and Ashlee Eichler led the way with three hits each. Hebensperger drove in six runs with two home runs and a double. Eichler had a double and a home run with three RBI.

Katelynn Siess was the winning pitcher and also had two hits, as did Abbie Eichler, Sage Hamilton and Shelbey Smedley. Guthrie batters walked eight times.

In other action last week, Guthrie traveled to the Jenks Festival and lost to Broken Arrow 9-0 and Jenks 14-2. Hebensperger had two of her team’s five hits in the opener, while Hamilton had two of the team’s six hits against Jenks in a four-inning game.

The Lady Bluejays were scheduled to play Crescent on Monday night but that game was canceled after a rain delay.
