Guthrie wrestlers advance to state meet

Subhead

The Guthrie wrestling team qualified four of their six entries at the Duncan regional on Saturday for the Class 5A state meet this Friday in Oklahoma City. Because of the COVID issues the regional is split in two days. The upper seven weight classes will be in Duncan on Monday to qualify for Friday's state tournament. The state tournament is a one-day event this year on four mats and the Class 5A and 4A teams will compete Friday starting at 10 a.m.

Eli Kirk (113 pounds), Braden Hall (126 pounds) Jake Carey (138 pounds) and Dean Madison (145 pounds) all finished in second place in their weight classes to qualify for Friday's meet. If the seedings out of the east hold to form, the Bluejays' wrestlers will face the No. 3 seeds out of the east regional that was also contested on Saturday.

The girl's tournament is Thursday at the Fairgrounds arena starting at 11:30 a.m. for the quarterfinals. Guthrie has regional champ Khaleah Kirk (118 pounds) and third place finisher Klaribel Kirk (100 pounds) in the tournament.
