1936-2024
Joe Stanbro was born on June 2, 1936 in Verdigris, OK. He went home on October 20, 2024, at the age of 88 in Guthrie, OK. He is preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Billie Sue ( Knight) Stanbro. He is survived by his daughter Andrea Stanbro and wife Mary of Oklahoma City, daughter Leslye Ferrell of Guthrie, son Dr. Peter B. Stanbro of Nichols Hills and son John Stanbro and wife Cricket of Guthrie. Grandchildren include Valynn (Ferrell) Dennin and husband Micheal of Cincinnati, Cory Ferrell and wife Alisha of Coyle, Matthew Ferrell and wife Allison of Coyle and Darnell Ferrell of Chicago. Great grandchildren include Adelyn and Archer Dennin of Cincinnati and Austyn, Collins, Oren and Seth Ferrell of Coyle and Olivia, Mackenzie and Halle Ferrell also of Coyle.
Joe met his wife Billie while in school at Inola and became high school sweethearts. After graduating from Inola in 1954, Joe joined the United States Air Force in 1955 and traveled all over the world including the Middle East and Asia as well as multiple stateside assignments. After 30 years, he retired as a proud officer of the US Air Force. Joe and Billie settled in Tahlequah, and later moved to Guthrie where they owned multiple antique stores. Joe loved antiquing, picking and garage sales. He constantly worked the cryptoquote crossword puzzles in ink. He was tenacious and always achieved what he set out to do.
A memorial service will be held in Guthrie at Community Church, I-35 and Seward Road at 2:00 pm on November 18, 2024.
