James Cowans 1955-2025

James David Cowans was born on December 27, 1955, in Port Hueneme, California, to Marvin Cowans and Frankie (Hudson) Cowans. He passed away on November 11, 2025, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, surrounded by the love of his family.

On November 19, 1973, James married Lynda Gentry, and together they built a life rooted in devotion, laughter, and unwavering partnership. Their marriage spanned more than fifty years, and through every season, they remained one another’s constant source of strength.

James spent many years working as a truck driver and took pride in providing for his family. He also served his country as an Army Veteran, an experience that shaped his steady, disciplined nature.

In 1996, James and his family made Guthrie their home. He cherished the slower pace of life and enjoyed simple routines—fishing, woodworking, and time with friends. These moments brought him peace and purpose. Family meant everything to him, and he showed his love quietly but consistently through small acts of care, humor, and presence.

Survivors include his wife Lynda; children Melissa Phillips, Lissa Splawn and partner Mike Tallent, and Susan Cowans; siblings Larry Cowans and wife Debby and Rhonda Gomez; 13 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents Marvin and Frankie Cowans, brother Jerry Cowans, sister Vickie Lynn, two granddaughters, one grandson, and two great granddaughters.

There are no services planned. Arrangements are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home. Friends and family may sign the online guestbook at hayesfh.com.
