Cheryl “Cherie” Ann

Hamilton

1959-2024

Cheryl “Cherie” Ann Hamilton, age 64, of Guthrie, Oklahoma passed away on April 3, 2024. She spent the last few years of her life fearlessly battling cancer on her terms, a battle in which she celebrated many victories, and one she never stopped fighting. Just as she lived on her terms, she elected to die on her terms, surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born May 25, 1959 in Arlington, Virginia to Peter F. and Rosalyn Bradford Bono.

Her family soon moved from Virginia to Oklahoma, where she attended public schools and, in high school, met Randall L. “Randy” Hamilton, whom she would marry shortly after graduating, on July 29, 1977.

The couple built a home east of Guthrie, where they would live, work, and raise a family for the next four decades. An avid nature and animal lover, she would bring many treasured pets into the family over the years. She had a particular fondness for bully breeds and was a staunch advocate for them. Cherie worked many places over the years, including becoming the Managing Editor for the Guthrie News Leader, where she would hone her photography and writing skills that would become lifelong passions. Her work ethic was incorruptible, and she found meaning and value in everything she did.

Cherie had a wide variety of interests and talents, including gardening, photography, reading, sewing, crocheting, and birding, to name just a few. True to her Italian heritage, she often expressed her love through her exceptional cooking and hospitality. She gave selflessly to her loved ones, was always quick with sage advice or a witty joke, and handled everything tactfully and gracefully. She always spoke fluently, able to articulate herself with great care, consideration, and measured words, while instilling her characteristic calmness in those listening to her.

And while she was many things to many people (a friend, mentor, mother, daughter, sister, and partner), above all else, she was a pillar of strength and support to those closest to her; both an anchor and North Star.

She is survived by her husband of 46 years, Randy, of the home in Guthrie; four children, Eric and Lisa Hamilton, Cody and Jamie Hamilton, Ryan Hamilton and Emily Phillips, and Michael Hamilton, all of Guthrie; five grandchildren, Felicita, Skyler, Jadeyn, Tristan, and Yemaya, all of Guthrie; three brothers, Tom and Debbie Bono of Corpus Christi, Texas, David and Ruby Bono, of Bellevue, Washington, and Chris and Jennifer Bono of Edmond. She was preceded in death by her parents.

Memorial services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m., Thursday, April 11, 2024, at Hayes Funeral Home Chapel, 117 E. Noble Ave., Guthrie, Oklahoma with Chaplain Gene Owen officiating. Friends and family may sign the online guestbook at hayesfh. com.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made in her name to Earthjustice, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, The Oklahoma Humane Society, or a similar charity of your choice.

“Go now. Our journey is done. And may we meet again, in the clearing, at the end of the path.” -Stephen King
