Billy Joe Mundell

The family of Billy Joe Mundell, of Guthrie, Oklahoma, is saddened to announce his sudden passing, on September 1st, 2021. Billy was born on March 18,1941 to William and Doris (Carter) Mundell.

Billy is survived by his children, Billy Mundell JR and Felina Bleacher, of Oklahoma City, Melissa Mundell, Philip Mundell and Jessica Hart, of Dallas Texas, along with 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, brothers Rick Mundell, of Utah and Vernon Mundell, of Guthrie, Oklahoma and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.

Billy was proceeded in death by his son Christopher Mundell, mother Doris Mundell, sister Wanda Gravett, father William Mundell and brother Ronald Mundell, all of Guthrie, Oklahoma.

After high school, Billy went into a career of welding, like his father, until he suffered an injury which brought him to his life-long janitorial profession. He retired from the Guthrie Job Corps in 2006 where he had a big impact on all the kids. He spent his retirement years with his love of fishing, taking care of the latest stray dog he rescued and spending time with his kids and grandkids.

Billy was a hardworking, loving father, who raised his children with great love and discipline. He taught them to always be humble and kind to everyone. He raised them to be the best at whatever they chose to do, no matter what it was. He always said they were his greatest accomplishment.

Billy’s favorite saying was ‘It is what it is’. He was fondly referred to as ‘The Joker’ at the nursing home. He always had a funny joke and an ornery grin to make the nurses laugh daily. He will certainly be missed by all.

Billy’s memorial service will be held at Smith-Gallo Funeral Home in Guthrie, Oklahoma on October 9th, 2021 at 2pm. Due to COVID, seating is limited, so there will be a live stream of the service, for those unable to attend. We invite all family and friends out to the Guthrie VFW after wards, for a CELEBRATION OF BILLY MUNDELL’S LIFE, at his request.
