GHS boys’ wrestling punched their ticket to the 2025 Class 5A Dual State Championships with four wins at the 5A-5 District Duals on Tuesday.
The Bluejays will travel to Union High School in Tulsa for their second-straight dual state appearance thanks to wins over district foes Bishop Kelley, Sapulpa, Tulsa Edison and Pryor. They’ve now qualified for dual state in four of the last five seasons.
Coach Jadon Davenport’s team wrestled 56 total matches in one day at District Duals. They kicked off the event with a 69-9 opening round win over Tulsa Edison, then moved on to face Bishop Kelley, winning 57-16 over the host Comets.
Guthrie’s next dual resulted in another statement win, 48-16, over the Sapulpa Chieftains. They concluded a full day of wrestling by defeating Pryor in the district final, 51-22, to qualify for Dual State on Feb. 15. The Bluejays won the final six matches of the dual after leading 29-22 at the midway point.
The Jays have now won their last six duals and are 10-4 overall this season. They rank No. 6 in the Class 5A team standings with six wrestlers ranked in their individual weight classes.
Guthrie still has work to do before competing in Tulsa next month. They have head-to-head duals against Cushing on Dec. 28, and at home against Blanchard two days later on Jan. 30. The Jays end the regular season with an appearance at the Big 4+4 Tournament in Blackwell on Feb. 1 before starting postseason action.
