Barbara Griffin

A Celebration of Life Service will be held for Barbara Jo Griffin, who went to be with Jesus on January 1, 2023. The services will be held at 10:00am., Friday January 6th, 2023 at Cookson Baptist Church. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Oklahoma City, OK.

Barbara, 93, was born April 10, 1929, in Guthrie, Oklahoma to Roy Otis and Ima Lee (Shipley) Terry. She attended Guthrie Schools, graduating in 1947. She married Harry Dee Griffin in Guthrie on May 23, 1948.

For 50 years, Barbara and Harry were partners in life – and in ministry. Their journey together included six Oklahoma pastorates over a 14 year period in Coyle, Byars, Choctaw, Collinsville, Bartlesville, and Hinton. They served 6 years as missionaries in Japan, and 16 years as director of missions in Cushing, Oklahoma.

While in Hinton, Barbara completed her degree in education, at Southwestern Oklahoma State University, and later received her master’s degree in reading. She taught at the elementary level for over 20 years mostly in Cushing until her retirement in 1994.

After retirement she enjoyed her remaining years in Cookson, Oklahoma, where she was actively involved in the community and Cookson Baptist Church.

Barbara will be dearly missed by her children; Deanne and Terry Antanaitis of Oklahoma City, OK; Pamela and Jack Shanklin of Cherokee, TX; and Harry and Tracye Griffin of Liberty , Missouri; her 10 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren; as well as other family and friends impacted by her life of service.
