Marjorie Patmon

Life and Legacy of Marjorie Patmon Sunrise: February 2, 1943 Sunset: December 8, 2022 Attorney Marjorie Patmon was born in Crescent, Oklahoma on February 2, 1943. She is the daughter of Bessie (Reid) Patmon and Bose C. Patmon.

She is a Crescent High School graduate in the class of 1960. She later obtained a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree in Chemistry from Central State University; a Juris Doctorate from the University of Oklahoma School of Law in 1971 and in 1975 she received a Master of Law and Taxation degree from Emory University, Decatur, Georgia.

Marjorie served as a Chemist for the US Geological Survey both in Oklahoma City and Denver, CO. She was an Inventory Management Specialist at Tinker Air Force Base (Mid West City, OK) while attending law school. She was the first black graduate from the Graduate Tax Law program, the eight black graduate in Law from the University of Oklahoma, and the first woman to be appointed General Counsel of the Oklahoma Tax Commission in 1977. During that time, she established the first position of Administration Judge at the Oklahoma Tax Commission and drafted the first set of procedural rules. She also worked to establish the expanded sales tax code for the State of Oklahoma.

At torney Patmon worked with the Oklahoma State Legislature and Governors’ Boren, Nigh, and Walters in the interest of tax reform, women’s right, the disabled, and job opportunities for young, disadvantaged persons.

She is a member of the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Warr Acres, The National Black Catholic Congress, and worked with The United Way, The National Urban League, and volunteered with at the Metro YMCA. Marjorie served as a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority (AKA sorority).

Among her many honors are Personalities of the South, Outstanding Young Women of America, Who’s Who in Black America, Key to the City of Detroit, Honorary member of Zeta Phi Beta and Crescent High School Distinguished Alumni.

Marjorie Patmon will always be remembered for her devoted faith, steadfast love of her family and support of her friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Bose and Bessie Patmon, and two brothers: Louis C. Patmon and Frederick A. Patmon.

She is survived by nine sisters and four brothers, along with a host of nieces and nephews.

Wake services will be held at Abernathy Funeral Home, Crescent, Oklahoma December 18, 2022 from 3 PM-4 PM (public viewing).

Funeral services will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, 5024 N Grove Ave, Warr Acres, OK December 30, 2022 at 1 PM.
