James William “Jim” Cromwell, age 79, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord, November 19, 2022 in Guthrie, Logan County, Oklahoma. He was born January 4, 1943 in Taft, Kern County, California to Rev. James Gaston and Dr. Linnie Belle Julia (Glover) Cromwell. He married Carolyn Ruth Moe on November 26, 1960 in Dallas, Dallas County, Texas. Together they had one child, James Adam Cromwell.
Jim and Carolyn traveled in the ministry with his family for many years. He played the bass guitar during revival and Church services, in addition to helping set up tents and whatever else was needed. He also wrote several gospel tracts to help spread the Word of God. He loved listening to gospel music and reading his Bible. He loved coffee. He was a talented artist, painting beautiful pictures of scenery, murals, etc. He was able to see colors in paint that most people would not notice. He owned his own business, Cromwell Custom Painting, in Edmond, Oklahoma, for several years which included painting, staining woodwork and drywall of various luxurious homes.
Jim loved the Lord Jesus Christ with all of his heart and wanted everyone else to know Christ. He will be remembered for his generosity and love for his family, his silliness and also his determination. “Papa Jim” will be missed by his two amazing grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Linnie Belle Cromwell, one sibling and one nephew, David Rex Lee Cromwell.
He is survived by his loving wife Carolyn of the home, his son James of Guthrie, two grandchildren, James Craig and Ella Grace Ann, three brothers, John and wife Patricia of Norman, Daniel and wife Judith of Edmond, Allen “Ray” of Bristow, one sister, Julia and husband Bob Hinkle of Edmond, one uncle, numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
There will be a private family gathering in celebration of his life. The family appreciates and wishes to thank all who helped with Jim’s care.
