The Knights of Columbus Council 916 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church will host its fourth annual Stuff the Truck with Turkeys and Hams to benefit God’s Food Bank for Thanksgiving this weekend at the church.
Turkeys can be dropped off Saturday from 4 to 5:30 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 to 11:45 a.m. at St. Mary’s in Guthrie. Turkeys also will be accepted at St. Margaret Mary’s Church in Crescent on Sunday morning from 7:45 to 9 a.m.
For the second year, the Guthrie High School Student Council is helping out with a Stuff the Truck drop-off on Wednesday, Nov. 9, from 7:45 a.m. until 9 a.m. at the front of the high school.
The turkeys and hams will then be distributed to God’s Food Bank clients on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Clients need to sign up in advance; the food bank is closed Thanksgiving week.
The Crescent Food Bank also is looking for turkeys for their clients, and if anyone wants to donate specifically to them, the food will be routed that way.
Last year, the event collected more than 4,000 pounds of meat for the food bank, and officials are hoping for similar results this year. Cash Savers is helping out and brought in 300 10- to 14-pound turkeys for the event. If customers go to the meat department and ask for a Stuff the Truck turkey, they will assist you.
The Guthrie Ministerial Alliance also has been a partner in this event by getting the word out to churches in the area. If any church needs to get turkeys picked up on Sunday, please call 405757-5901 and a pickup will be arranged.
