Halloween In Spring

Who says you can’t have more fun frights after the Halloween candy is all gone? Not the folks at the Pollard Theatre! The classic ghoulish spirits in our revival of A Territorial Christmas Carol this holiday season are sure to raise some hairs on the back of your neck! And they don’t plan to stop there! After the New Year, to complete their 35th Season, the theatre plans to produce two killer shows of the spooky variety - both classic off-Broadway works AND hit 80s films!

In March, the popular board game and cult-favorite film, Clue: On Stage, sneaks its way into Guthrie for a month of farcical fun! The theatre company is delighted to start 2023 off with a delightful BANG, a SMASH, and a SCREAM! Guaranteed to be startlingly fun!

The iconic whodunnit places us in the recognizable eerie setting of . . . it’s a dark and stormy night! The play’s witty concept unfolds in the hilarity that ensues when several guests who have been invited to an unusual dinner party begin to arrive. Each has an alias; the butler offers a variety of weapons; and the host is, well . . . dead. So, who’s the killer? Join the familiar oddball characters known as Scarlet, Plum, White, Green, Peacock, and Mustard as they race to find the murderer in Boddy Manor before the body count stacks up!

Then, wrapping up the season in June, the Pollard plans to present a second mysterious production: Little Shop of Horrors. Artistic Director Jared Blount weighs in on the Pollard›s decision to do two non-traditional pieces in lieu of the typical Spring Musical. “Both of these shows are similar in tone and in function. They’re funny and spooky. It only makes sense to do them back-to-back and at a time of year when other venues are planning for Rogers & Hammerstein. I’m a Halloween-All-Year kind of guy, and I am confident our patrons will enjoy some, if not a lot of mystery this coming Spring!” And isn’t the historic, ghost-storied city of Guthrie the perfect place to produce this kind of fun?

Little Shop of Horrors is a hilariously frightening musical about the meek floral assistant Seymour Krelborn, who stumbles across a new breed of plant he names, Audrey II, after his coworker crush. This foul-mouthed, R&B-singing carnivore promises the down-and-out Krelborn unending fame and fortune as long as he keeps feeding it BLOOD. This award-winning musical has everything audience members could ask for: man-eating plants, sadist dentists, and a heartwarming love story - all in one!

Clue: On Stage runs March 10th – April 1st, and Little Shop of Horrors from June 9th – July 1st, both in 2023 with 12 performances. Tickets for these productions will be on sale around the holidays, so keep a lookout on the Pollard’s website at www.thepollard.org.
