Carole Marie Williams Hider

Carole Marie Williams Hider was born on November 13, 1944, and raised on a farm N.W. of Guthrie, Oklahoma by her parents Sterling and Adel Williams. She attended Rosenwald School and Faver High School in Guthrie. Carole received a Bachelor of Home Economics degree in 1970 and a Master of Urban Education degree in 1992 from Langston University in Langston, Oklahoma.

After receiving her bachelor’s degree, she was employed with the Oklahoma City Public Schools as a teacher at Woodson. Later she was referred to the Community Action Head Start Program. She applied for the position as Teacher Director and her early childhood development career began in 1971 at 2,3,4 Playhouse in Oklahoma City. She worked there five years and was promoted to Center Director at City County Head Start in Spencer, Oklahoma where she spent most of her career. Prior to retiring in 2010, she transferred to Ruth Dropkin Head Start as Center Director in Oklahoma City.

After retirement, Carole was an active member with Faver High School Alumni and a Lifetime member of Langston University National Alumni Association – Guthrie Chapter. She enjoyed traveling with her daughter Karen and her job, her son Marlowe, two grandchildren: DaMarlowe and Yasmine, and her son-in-law Larry. Carole had a regular daily

Williams Hider routine. She got up early in the mornings and read, worked word puzzles, did her chores, and got out of the house!! Carole had a heart of gold and was a highly motivated, organized, fantastic lady who also was a great listener and problem solver. Ohhhh and don’t forget the BEST COOK and HOST you’d ever met! Carole specialized in Fried Chicken, Chicken and Dumplings, Dressing, Greens, Cabbage with potatoes and okra, Black-eyed Peas, Hot Water Cornbread, Coconut Cake, German Chocolate Cake, 7-up Pound Cake, Peach Cobbler with Raisins, Chocolate Chip Cookies, Peanut Brittle and Fudge – just to name a few! She marked our taste buds with these delectable dishes and passed the torch to her daughter who will carry on her legacy of cooking.

Carole departed this life on Tuesday, June 28, 2022 in Oklahoma City.

She is preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Della Williams Morgan, Barbara Williams Grant, and Ramona Williams Scott; brothers, Orland Williams, and Charles Williams; and son, Marlowe Hider.
