Street Kings Car Show on Saturday

A trio of traditions will take place Saturday in Guthrie, starting with the annual Street Kings Car Show, the much-anticipated '89er Day Parade at noon, and the '89er Day Ranch Rodeo at 7.

The downtown parade -- the oldest and largest in Oklahoma -- is the centerpiece of the week-long '89er Day Celebration festivities to honor the state's first land run.

But, be sure to also include time to head to the Logan County Fairgrounds, at 1201 S. Division Street, for the free, family-friendly car show, starting at 9 a.m.

It includes a free automotive swap meet, food trucks on site, and plenty for the family to enjoy. There are no entry fees or trophies for those who display their cars. Limited edition T-shirts, featuring three of the original SK cars from the '70s, will be on sale for $25 (up to extra large) and $27 (for larger sizes).

Street Kings, originally named the “Dragons,” came to fruition back in 1973 when six Guthrie youths watched "American Graffiti" for the first time and decided they needed a car club for themselves.

Aaron Robinson, Ben Frier, Harold Rieker, Robin Paschall, Tim Hawkins and Martin Blaney started Street Kings as youngsters, and through their dedication and hard work, the Street Kings car club has expanded and flourished into the audience-pleasing event that Guthrie hosts to this day.
