Merely 30 days after his release on bond, Daniel Triplett’s bond may be revoked.
Laura Austin Thomas, the District Attorney, filed a motion on Jan. 6 at 2:07 p.m. to revoke Triplett’s bond after he had violated the terms of the bond on multiple occasions.
The motion lays out multiple instances Triplett violated the bond, including: A Dec. 15 visit to the Waffle House at an I-35 Service Road in NE Oklahoma City, visiting a convenience store in Guthrie at Sooner and Steward Road on Jan. 4 and conducted business at Oklahoma State Bank a couple hours later.
A detective at the Guthrie Police Department was contacted by an employee at Oklahoma State Bank, who advised the detective of Triplett’s whereabouts conducting business in the drive-thru at approximately 3:48 p.m. on Jan. 4.
Detective Mark Bruning of the Guthrie Police Department contacted Cleveland County Court Services in Norman, who were unaware that Triplett was outside the boundaries of the bond restrictions. They then found the other cases of exceeding his bond by looking at other times he was approved to go to certain places.
Cleveland County Court Services, who oversees Triplett’s ankle monitoring device, responded to Bruning’s inquiry on an email. It said “He has been told he was only to go to approved appointments. I just spoke with him about stopping at the bank on his way home from his (attorney) appointment. He knows that his stop is being reported back to the DA and he is in violation of his bond. I told him to contact his attorney immediately.”
Oklahoma State Bank provided Bruning with copies of the video footage. Bruning identified Triplett wearing a red and white hat with blue glasses in the footage of the drive-thru at the bank.
Triplett is accused of murdering Brent Mack and was charged with first degree murder and desecration of a corpse on Oct. 25.
Thomas is asking the judge to revoke or increase the bond amount for Triplett. The former city councilman was given a $500,000 bond and was released from custody on Dec. 7. As a condition of his bond, Triplett was only allowed to leave his house arrest to visit with his attorney and go to doctor appointments and court dates.
Triplett is scheduled back in court on Friday, Jan. 14 at 2:30 p.m. in front of Judge Worthington. At his first bond hearing, Worthington granted Triplett bond.
Thomas is asking Worthington to authorize Triplett’s arrest and detention before the hearing.
