There will only be one area lighting up the sky this Friday in Cashion.
Cashion Boom Fest was postponed last week because of rain but will return this Friday at 6 p.m. at the West Park Ball Fields. This is the event’s third year and is free to attend.
Brad Stone, the director of Boom Fest, rattled off some of the activities for kids.
The first is a Candy Scramble 6 p.m.
“That’s a parent’s worst nightmare, just kidding,” Stone said. “It’s like Easter in July. We’ve got plenty of candy, hopefully it doesn’t all melt, but those kids will walk away all sugared and happy.”
Another sweet event will be the pie eating contest with separate divisions for kids older than 12. This will take place at 6:15 p.m.
The kid’s activities will conclude at 7:15 with turtle races.
“It is BYOT, bring your own turtle, but there will be a prize for the fastest turtle and its owner or trainer,” Stone said.
There will be live music throughout the night, food trucks and fireworks to cap off the event. Shuttles running from downtown Cashion and the track parking lot will assist people who don’t want to fight parking at the event.
“There is a small-town America feel (to this event), it’s really for the Cashion residents and surrounding communities to come out and celebrate the country’s independence, enjoy some music and food from our local vendors. And then we put what we believe to be the biggest firework show that Cashion’s ever seen,” Stone said.
