Mitzi Annette “Anne” (Anderson) Chamberlain

Mitzi Annette “Anne” (Anderson) Chamberlain passed away June 18, 2021 in her home in Guthrie, Oklahoma surrounded by family. Anne was born in Guthrie to George Lincoln Anderson, Sr., and Gladys Mary (Crews) Anderson on April 27, 1934.

She graduated from Guthrie High School and the University of Oklahoma with a B.S. in Paleontology. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She began her working career with Shell Oil Company in Houston, Texas and later transferred to their New Orleans office where she was the first female Micro Paleontologist for Shell Oil. She retired from Shell Oil at the age of 53.

Upon retirement, she moved back to Guthrie to care for her aging mother. In 1999, at the age of 65, she met and married the love of her life, John Harold Chamberlain, Jr. and they enjoyed a wonderful marriage of over 20 years.

Anne was preceded in death by her husband John Harold Chamberlain, Jr., father, mother, and her brother, George Lincoln Anderson, Jr. She is survived by her stepson Nick Chamberlain and wife Patti, stepdaughters Cecilia Burzycki and husband Allen, Mary Petrey and husband Steve, seven grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, six greatgreat children, nephews Michael Anderson, Phil Anderson and girlfriend Jamee Friedmann, nieces Deborah Ward and husband Colonel, Sheri Straughn and husband Richard and other family members.

Anne was a devout, lifelong, Catholic and a member of the Catholic Daughters Organization for 34 years, serving as Regent from 1997-2001 and served many roles with her parish. She worked with the youths, assisted elderly members, supporting St. Mary’s School in many ways. She led the Angel Giving Tree for several years. She funded many church and school projects and the school’s basketball team. She built and funded the school library, “Anne’s Library”, where she would come to read to the children and work with them as well. She loved animals and always had a collection of dogs, cats and turtles that shared her home. Anne was an active member of her garden club for most of her adult life and became a Master Floral Judge.

Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 A.M., on Thursday, June 24, 2021, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Rev. James Wickersham officiating. A Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hayes Funeral Home Chapel.

Services are under the direction of Hayes Funeral Home.
