UCO School of Design Wins Big at OKC ADDYs

The University of Central Oklahoma's School of Design continued its winning streak at the Oklahoma City 2021 American Advertising Awards (ADDYs), capturing top awards and solidifying a string of victories in the annual design competition.

Central's School of Design brought home 41 gold, 21 silver and 28 bronze awards. UCO design student Haley Carter won the Best of University category, as well as the Special Judges Award for her campaign "Terracom." UCO Design student Cynthia Luong took home top honors in the Best of Show category for "Mayhem."

In the professional category, Amy Johnson, M.FA., Central professor of design and department chairperson, earned a gold award for "Make Ready; the Case for UCO Design." Wylee Sanderson, graphic designer for Central's College of Fine Arts and Design, won gold awards for "Reminisce" and "The Addy Winners."

UCO Design also received the BRAGGY Award, which is awarded to the university with the most winners. Gold ADDY winners moved forward to compete in the District 10 competition, followed by the National American Advertising Federation (AAF) Awards.

"I am so proud of our students and their strong showing at the ADDY Awards. This external validation of our internal efforts combined with the student's hard work illustrates the UCO School of Design's relentless pursuit of excellence," Johnson said.

The ADDYs is the largest competition in the U.S. for advertising design, attracting more than 40,000 entries every year. The ADDYs is a three-tier competition, starting with local club competition, in which winners are invited to compete at the second-tier district level. District ADDY winners are then invited to compete on the national stage.

The ADDY Winners Exhibition is currently on display in the Donna Nigh Gallery, located on the third and fourth floors of the Nigh University Center in Central's campus. The showcase will be on display through May 7.
