Guthrie Softball Took Third in Hennessey Tournament

The Guthrie High School Lady Bluejays travelled to Hennessey on March 25 and 26 and finished in third place in the tournament. The Lady Bluejays are now 10-3 on the season and were in action Monday and Tuesday night with their first home games of the 2021 season.

Guthrie would lose the first game of the tournament 13-12 to Chisholm to fall into the loser’s bracket right away. The Lady ‘Jays got two home runs from Ryann Waters and one from Ashlee Eichler as part of their 14 hits and got five doubles in the game. Eichler and Waters had three hits each to lead the way. Bayleigh Rolens took the loss giving up 18 hits and nine walks. Guthrie had two defensive errors in the game.

Guthrie would bounce back Thursday afternoon and score nine runs in the fifth inning to beat Okarche 12-9. The Lady Bluejays had 19 hits with Ashlee and Abbie Eichler each having three. Addy Awbry led the extra hit parade with a triple to go with Guthrie’s five doubles.

The Lady Bluejays would win their third game of the day against tournament host Hennessey on a 12-2 run rule game in four innings. Elaina Clark and Abbie Eichler hit the home runs, and the offense hit six doubles in the game. Guthrie totaled 15 hits with six different players having two hits each.

Guthrie would return Friday morning for four more games in about a six hour time frame to finish up the tournament. The day started with a 10-6 win over Okarche as Guthrie scored four times in the bottom of the sixth inning to get the win. Abbie Eichler had a grand slam in the game and drove in six of the ten runs. Abbie Eichler had four hits in the game, and Ashlee Eichler chipped in with three hits as Guthrie had 16 hits overall.

Dibble was the next game, and the game went the distance as Guthrie won 14-5 with 19 hits. Jules Leach hit the home run, and Addy Awbry hit a double as part of her four-hit effort. Leach and the Eichler sisters each had three hits in the game.

The Lady Bluejays would then get some payback when they beat Chisholm on Friday 8-4 in the consolation round. Abbie Eichler hit a home run and a double to drive in four runs and lead the offense. Awbry had a triple as part of her two-hit game. Leach, Clark and Trinity LeGrande also had two hits in the game.

The Chisholm win got the Lady Bluejays into a game with Crescent. The Lady Tigers fought back from a 10-0 first-inning deficit to beat Guthrie 19-13. Awbrey, Ashlee Eichler and Waters all hit home runs, and the Lady `Jays also hit four doubles to have seven extra base hits among their 15 hits. The Guthrie pitchers surrendered 12 walks, and the defense had three errors to help the Lady Tigers come back on 12 hits.

Guthrie hosts PerkinsTryon on April 5 before another tournament next weekend in Morrison.
