Explore the galaxy without leaving the classroom! Using the Kirkpatrick Planetarium’s state-of-the-art technology, Science Museum Oklahoma is now offering interactive, virtual planetarium shows by appointment for educators and their students on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12-3 p.m. Shows are only $30 and limited to 50 students.
Utilizing the same technology that produces the museum’s dome shows, these 30-minute live, virtual shows can be customized to cover specific topics at the educator’s request. The realism rivals anything seen on commercial television and is created using current data from NASA and other national resources. This allows the museum to create shows that illustrate the latest news in scientific discovery.
“Our virtual planetarium shows allow students to engage with exciting new concepts in a time when remote learning and canceled field trips mean a trip to our Kirkpatrick Planetarium may not be possible. Of course, experiencing a live show in our planetarium is the best experience, but this is pretty close!” said Kirkpatrick Planetarium Director Tom Arnold. “Innovations in space exploration, both from manned missions and roving landers, provide a continuous stream of amazing discoveries that we want to put into the hands of students. We’re delighted that this new offering allows us this opportunity in a way that most schools can access.”
“The universe is filled with wonders beyond our imagination, and our new interactive, virtual planetarium shows allow students to experience that feeling of wonder from their homes or classrooms when a trip to the museum isn’t possible.”
