On July 11, the Logan County 4-H hosted its second Dairy Education Day and Homemade Ice Cream Contest. Faculty from the Sherman Lewis School of Agriculture & Applied Sciences at Langston University taught participants about different breeds of dairy goats and the nutritional value of goat milk. 4-H’ers also conducted the California Mastitis Test on goat milk samples.
Several 4-H’ers hosted educational booths on topics ranging from dairy cattle breeds to dairy nutrition. The Mulhall-Orlando, Coyle, Guthrie, and Morning Glories clubs participated in the Homemade Ice Cream Contest.
There were a total of 18 ice cream entries, and they were all delicious. Some of the flavors included non-dairy pineapple, chocolate, salted caramel, vanilla, Butterfinger, Twix, and Mint Oreo.
Logan County Commissioners Mark Sharpton and Floyd Coffman, along with Chris Evans of the Guthrie News Page, served as judges for the Homemade Ice Cream Contest.
