Mulhall-Orlando senior earns Girl Scout Gold Award for ‘Grow and Glow’ project

Braylea Lawson, a student at Mulhall- Orlando High School, received her Girl Scout Gold Award earlier this month for creating “Grow and Glow,” an interactive curriculum designed to teach elementary students about mental health awareness and agricultural literacy.

Lawson was recognized during an awards ceremony hosted by Girl Scouts of Western Oklahoma, where she also received the organization’s scholarship for her leadership and community impact.

“Grow and Glow” was created to address two community needs by combining emotional wellness education with hands-on agricultural learning opportunities for young students.

The program includes planting kits that allow children to care for living plants while learning about plant life cycles and environmental responsibility. Students also participate in guided breathing exercises and journaling activities aimed at promoting emotional awareness and healthy coping skills.

Lawson said the project’s “dual-care” philosophy encourages students to care for both their personal well-being and the world around them.

The Girl Scout Gold Award is the highest achievement in Girl Scouts and recognizes projects that demonstrate sustainable community impact, leadership and long-term service.
