UPDATE ON THREATS AT GUTHRIE HIGH SCHOOL

Yesterday there was a threat attributed to Guthrie High School in the form of a picture
circulating on the social media platform Snapchat.

The post contained a picture of a restroom stall at the school where a threat had been written. That threat and others
which have surfaced today appear to be part of a nationwide social media hoax.

Multiple statewide law enforcement agencies have advised the Guthrie Police Department that a picture circulating today is identical to a picture circulating nationwide that originated in Georgia as a part of the hoax.

Another threat was brought to administrators at Guthrie Junior High this morning. Local law enforcement have
determined both reports to be connected to the nationwide hoax.

No credible threat is believed to be present at either school.

The report from yesterday indicates local students may have participated in furtherance
of this hoax and the investigation is ongoing. No evidence of any weapon being present
on either campus has been found.

Out of an abundance of caution, the Guthrie Police Department has again placed
additional officers in the building for the remainder of the day and the Logan County
Sheriff’s Office has also been notified to assist as needed.

Quote from Guthrie Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson:

"I’m very thankful again for the swift work of the Guthrie Police Department in keeping
our students safe. We urge parents to visit with their children about what they choose
to share on social media"
