The University of Central Oklahoma has named Gloria Caddell, Ph.D., as dean of the College of Mathematics and Science, effective June 1.
"Caddell is a devoted servant-leader who has earned the high regard of her colleagues across campus for her tireless dedication to students and faculty, her unparalleled work ethic and her thoughtful and calm approach to resolving issues," said Charlotte Simmons, Ph.D., provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.
"I am confident that she is the committed, collaborative and effective leader needed to guide the College of Mathematics and Science."
Since joining UCO in 1990, Caddell has served as interim dean, associate dean and chairperson. She has been awarded many accolades throughout her career at Central, including the provost's Modeling the Way Award, the Neely Excellence in Teaching Award and the College of Mathematics and Science Vanderford Distinguished Teaching Award.
Caddell is well known in Oklahoma and beyond for her contributions and expertise related to the flora of Oklahoma, particularly the native plant communities of gypsum outcrops of northwestern Oklahoma and the pollination of Oklahoma prairie plants. She is currently the managing editor of the Oklahoma Native Plant Record, a member of the Flora of Oklahoma editorial committee and director of the Selman Living Lab.
Caddell holds bachelor's and master's degrees in anthropology from the University of Alabama and a doctorate in biology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
