UCO College of Fine Arts and Design Names Weidell as New Dean

The University of Central Oklahoma has named Charleen Weidell, M.F.A. as dean of the College of Fine Arts and Design, effective June 1.

“Since joining UCO in 2004, Weidell has earned the respect of her colleagues across campus for her passionate mentorship of students, her strong advocacy of the arts and her collaborative and effective leadership style,” said Charlotte Simmons, Ph.D., provost and vice president for Academic Affairs.

“I am confident that she has the commitment, fortitude and demonstrable record of success to lead the College of Fine Arts and Design during this pivotal time in its history.”

Weidell, a nationally renowned jewelry artist and metalsmith, brings 13 consecutive years of administrative service to the dean position, including service as chairperson, assistant dean, associate dean and interim dean.

Weidell’s work in metal has been exhibited and collected on regional, national and international levels; “Tart Server,” a broad blade silver server, was acquired by the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. Her work has also been commissioned by Dumbarton House in Washington, D.C.

Weidell holds a Bachelor of Arts in liberal studies and applied design and a Master of Fine Arts in jewelry and metalsmithing, all from San Diego State University.
