Jordan Michael Peters age 37 has been taken to Logan County jail after attacking a female homeowner with a hammer and barricading himself in her attic space.
His potential charges include;
-Assault and battery with a dangerous weapon
-1st degree burglary
-Vandalism
-Obstruction of a Police Officer
-Two counts of assault and battery on an officer
At 8:22 PM on Friday, police received calls of a male attacking a female with a hatchet.
When officers arrived the male had attempted to break into the female’s residence and attacked her with a hammer.
He was unable to completely strike her with the hammer, as it became stuck in the curtains of the homeowner's window.
The suspect, Peters, had barricaded himself inside the female victim’s residence. He used an attic access port between the joists of the house which is a very small opening, no bigger than 24 inches wide into the attic.
As the situation progressed, they called back up because Peters fled and barricaded himself in the attic.
Edmond Swat Team helped reinforce police presence, because while Guthrie does have a Swat Team they are slowly needing to rebuild.
Edmond Police Department's Swat Team was able to assist as Peters had broken bricks loose from the interior of the attic and was throwing them at the responding swat officers.
A new access port was cut into the attic and once the Swat Team accessed the attic, Peters gave up and was taken in. The homeowner did not need to go to the hospital, she was treated on scene and discharged.
Peters' arraignment is on Monday at 1:30 p.m. at the Logan County Courthouse.
"Guthrie Police Department wants to thank the Edmond Police Department for their quick response and professionalism. Edmond was instrumental in ensuring the best possible outcome," said SGT. Anthony Gibbs.
