State of the Schools shows growth, more opportunities for district students

Local education leaders gathered Tuesday for the annual State of the Schools luncheon, highlighting achievements and challenges across the district’s educational landscape. The event, hosted by the Guthrie Chamber of Commerce at Meridian Technology Center, featured presentations from Guthrie Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Mike Simpson, Meridian Technology Center President Dr. Douglas Majors, and Langston University President Dr. Ruth Ray Jackson.

The main sponsor of the event was Oklahoma Natural Gas. Nearly 50 community members attended the Aug. 26 meeting.

Superintendent Simpson said Guthrie Public Schools is a leading employer in Logan County and urged community support, noting, “When we do well, the community does well, and when we don’t do well, the community suffers.”
