New Location for the News Leader

The Guthrie News Leader, Logan County’s trusted source for local news and information, is excited to announce its move to a new office location at 122 W. Oklahoma Avenue. This relocation marks a significant milestone in the newspaper's rich history, which spans over a century of dedicated service to the Guthrie community.

Founded in 1892 as the Daily Leader by cowboy-turned-teacher Roy Hoffman, the newspaper quickly became a cornerstone of Oklahoma Territory. Hoffman founded the paper as a Democrat response to Frank Greer’s Republican-leaning “Oklahoma State Capital”, also published in Guthrie. A year later, Hoffman added "Guthrie" to the masthead, solidifying its commitment to local coverage.

The Guthrie Daily Leader earned a reputation for its comprehensive reporting and insightful editorials, becoming known as the “Official Organ of Oklahoma Democracy.” This work enabled it to take the spot as the territory’s top newspaper just in time for Oklahoma statehood, and the Leader absorbed Greer’s “State Capital” in 1911.

Throughout the years, the Guthrie News Leader has witnessed and chronicled the evolution of Guthrie and Logan County. From the heady days right after the Land Run of 1889 to the statehood era and beyond, the newspaper has faithfully documented the triumphs, challenges, and everyday lives of local residents.

This dedication to community reporting has seen the newspaper operate from various locations throughout its history. One of its most notable homes was the Waite Block at 107-109 W. Harrison Avenue. Built in 1891, this iconic building housed the Daily Leader’s printing presses on the ground floor and editorial offices above. The newspaper’s presence in the Waite Block, a contributing structure in the Guthrie Historic District, cemented its place within the fabric of the city.

In more recent years, the Guthrie News Leader has operated from its offices at 212 W. Oklahoma Avenue. This location has served as a hub for news gathering and dissemination, allowing the newspaper to continue its mission of keeping the community informed.

Now, as the Guthrie News Leader embarks on a new chapter at 122 W. Oklahoma Avenue, the paper maintains its commitment to quality local journalism. "This move will help us better serve our community," says Rochelle Stidham, the News Leader’s owner and publisher. "We are excited to continue providing Guthrie and Logan County with the high-quality news coverage they deserve from our new location."

The News Leader’s move occurs officially on January 14.
